When will RIATest be available for Mac or Linux 1 Year, 9 Months ago
Is there any plans to port RIATest to the Mac or Linux (or any flavor of Unix) ?

We envisage having a functional test tool like RIATest as part of the standard environment for all our developers, our QA people and some of our client testers. The problem is we have a mix of platforms with PC and MAC being the most common and the odd linux or solaris.

regards

Porting RIATest to Mac and Linux is on our long term roadmap however it is not clear when exactly this will happen. It largely depends on what kind of demand we will see. So far there were very few requests for non-Windows versions.

We encourage everyone to let us know if they are interested in Mac or Linux versions.

Also... There are actually two possible ways: to port entire RIATest to other OS-es or to introduce just a RIATest Mac or Linux runner that will be able to only run tests.

Everyone is welcome to post comments on non-Windows RIATest here.

Please do work on this port! RIATest is the only application remaining in our development stack that is tying my dev team to the Windoze platform.

I believe the half-way house of providing only a test runner for *nix would be a good starting point as we can then move our continuous integration box to linux, but in order for our developers to embrace a proper development environment we *must* also have the IDE ported over as well.

I had previously floated the idea of actually porting the IDE to an Eclipse plugin (the java/flex IDE we currently use) which would then allow it to be run anywhere Eclipse can be run - thus limiting the OS-specific work need by your good selves. Perhaps open-sourcing the IDE (but keeping the test runner closed) to allow the community to develop this could be a good way forward?

Cheers

Actually making it Eclipse plugin is technically more difficult that porting RIATest as-is to Mac and Linux. So unless we see a strong demand for Eclipse integration it is not likely to happen soon.

See also my reply to this post riatest.com/forums.html?func=view&catid=9&id=273 for a possible way to run RIATest scripts on Flex application running under Mac OS X or Linux.

This seems to be my next issue as well... Our build-server is running linux, so it would be great to have the runner working there (natively). Any idea when/if a port would be available?

There are no definite plans for Linux support yet. Please vote for it here: www.riatest.com/support/feature-poll.html
If we see enough customer interest it will materialize.

A test runner for Linux is not in the list of candidate features. This limitation is the main reason to why I am not considering RIATest for my automatic GUI and integration testing. Without this limitation it would most probably have been my first choice.

Thank you for your comment.

Linux runner is not on our short-term roadmap, but it may happen in the future. Our decision will be largely driven by customer demand (which is not sufficient yet). Every vote counts, so if anyone wants a Linux runner please do let us know (in this post or raise a new post if you wish).
